V.P. Development

Jon D.

·         Jon D. reports that he has completed his D certification.

·         Currently, contacting coaches and getting background information. It is encouraged that coaches get their class E certification. Congratulations Jon D. for his accomplishment!

Develop a draft of agreement and email to board for input.

·         Preliminary summer competitive teams have many teams with full rosters. The girls’ U9G, U12G, U13G teams have slots for more players. The U18G (3 age groups 16, 17, &18) have 19 players with a full roster of 22. Note, this means at games. 18 will “dress” for the game. Most of the boys’ teams are full with slots for more players in the U9B, U13B, U15B, and U18B teams.

Fundraising/Publicity

Dan O./Bob M.

·         Fundraiser activity of sponsorship will be mailed this month again as last. Collaboration with the Mankato Chamber of Commerce will be used.

·         Dan O. has been working with the Riverhill’s Mall for the Spring/Summer Recreation and Recreation Plus “walk-up” registration which will be Saturday, February 18th 10 AM to 5 PM at Scheel’s this year with new uniforms available for purchase.  A proposal to the Riverhill’s Mall was distributed with recommendations for early bird sign-up discounts and tables/booths for registration, clothing, volunteers, coach recruitment, and United Way. Drinks and food donations are from Pepsi for sports drinks and Subway. All items must be purchased from the Riverhill’s Mall, no “outside” products can be brought in per contract.

The board reviewed last year’s letter and a few minor revisions were made.

Information will go in the newspaper soon. Use of radio announcements discussed and may be used especially the day of registration. They also hope to get flyers to the elementary schools for the Tuesday folder but permission is needed from the schools’ first.

Rec Plus

Bert B./Rick F.

·         Closing dates for Rec and Rec Plus registration is February 25th.

·         Discussed registration fees and the need for simplicity in the fees currently there are 4 levels that were based on recent allocation’s report.

Jack L. made a motion to change the registration fees to $40 for Rec (U6-U8) and $90 for Rec Plus (U10) and Competitive $145, Dan O. seconded and motion carried.

Old Business

United Way

Ron E.

·         Currently, re-establishing 501C-3 status and establishing volunteer assistance.

U18-19 Boys Team

Ron E.

·         Ron E. who has typically coached this boy’s team has been emailing and talking to past players to see if there is an interest in a summer league. Still waiting for the actual registration forms and money.

Recommend club apparel to be donated to volunteer.

Storage

Ron E.

·         Still working out details with MAYBA to use part of their storage building at lower Sibley Park. How much storage is available is “to be determined” and awaiting a response from MAYBA.

Message left with MAYBA contact and waiting response.

Club Apparel

Paul J.

·         Club uniforms are 2 tops, 1 pant, and 1 pr. socks for $70  are being order through Scheel’s. Recreation players will wear last years T-shirts. New players will  purchase 2 T-shirts, black shorts, and socks for $20.

·         Scheel’s has proposed to keep an inventory of club apparel and 10% per $1.00 of apparel sold would go to MUSC. Apparel would be available on the second level of the new store at the Riverhill’s Mall.

·         Scheel’s will be closed mid-March to April 1 for the opening of the new store location.

Players sent information to order uniforms with team confirmation letter.

Rick F. made a motion to have MUSC apparel inventory to be managed by Scheel’s; Jerry B. seconded and motion carried.

Field Development

Jim R.

·         Recent Envision 20/20 gathering is where the City of Mankato invited the community for input regarding future developments in Mankato.

·         Jim R. thanked the club for the recent gift as an “out-going” board member.

Jim R. encourages the board to attend any meetings like this to support soccer development in Mankato. Also, there is a website on the City of Mankato website for citizen input, “Your Take”, on current city topics and personal interests.

New Business

Treasurer Issues

Jerry B.

·         Will now be sending unpaid registration invoices to participants will new program.

·         Procedures for returned registration checks from the bank is there be an additional $5.00 fee for handling/mailing.

·         Suggest incentives for paying fees when requested.

Procedure for issuing player passes when competitive fees remain unpaid or partially unpaid is that participant’s are not issued player’s pass.

Support the idea of  “early bird” discounts. No action taken at this time.

Indoor Turf

Paul G.

·         All Seasons Arena (ice arena) has turf available in May and could be used for practices.

At this time, the board in general agrees that most soccer teams will be practicing outdoors by April and having games. This month is considered too late.

Winter Indoor Soccer League

Jon D.

·         Jon D. proposes to begin a winter indoor soccer league this winter. Suggested location for play would be school gymnasiums 6 – 8 (4 min.) teams would by 5 v 5 with goals and maximum of 9 players. The numbers are taken using an estimate of 140 high school varsity soccer players from the 4 schools in Mankato. Supervision is suggested either a parent or MUSC board member with informal referees. Suggested Game nights/times would be Sunday, Monday, or Wednesday in the evening. Potential needs or costs would be goals, referee fees, and possible facility fees. The teams would use their own jerseys.

MYSA does not provide insurance for indoor soccer leagues.  It is recommended to have players sign a liability waiver.

MUSC has goals and pennies that could be loaned for games.

MUSC supports this activity.

Since this is a new program and the goal is to develop interest, that recruitment for now will be person to person.

Leonard W.

·         Impact Fundraising, a local fundraising company, works with soccer clubs helping them achieve their fundraising goals at registration. They have contacted Leonard W. and the fundraising activity is the players selling items.
